El trabajo se centra en el Código civil de Puerto Rico, obra legislativa que se encuentra en la frontera entre el Derecho anglosajón y el europeo continental. Advierte el autor que el sistema continental otorga una cuota de poder a los jueces a través de la interpretación de las normas legales. En el sistema anglosajón, en cambio, el Parlamento recorta al mínimo esa facultad, y en las leyes escritas, el juez anglosajón es un mero y casi automático «aplicador» de la ley. Este artículo efectúa un cuidadoso estudio del Código civil portorriqueño, desde sus orígenes a las últimas reformas.

Description
The work focuses on the Civil Code of Puerto Rico, a legislative work lying on the border between Anglo-Saxon and continental European law. The author warns that the continental system grants a share of power to judges through the interpretation of legal norms. In the Anglo-Saxon system, on the other hand, Parliament curtails this power to a minimum, and in written laws, the Anglo-Saxon judge is a mere and almost automatic «applier» of the law. This article makes a careful study of the Puerto Rican Civil Code, from its origins to the latest reforms.
